Fairbridge Holdings fulfil promise on golf tourney

Fairbridge Holdings Limited on Saturday fulfilled its promise to sponsor a big golf tournament at Country Club Limbe (CCL), three months after hosting their inaugural competition.

The haulage firm did it to a turn by including professionals, seniors and developmental categories.

Saturday’s tournament attracted a field of 78 golfers and Fairbridge Holdings director Winnie Salama said they were impressed with the turnout.

“In July, we were here and we promised to come back bigger and better and we are excited with the response, especially having more categories.

“We have ventured into golf sponsorship because we feel it is an ideal platform to interact with our existing and potential customers. It is also part of our social responsibilities,” she said.

CCL vice-golf captain Chiukepo Gondwe thanked Fairbridge Holdings for living up to their word.

Playing off handicap (h/c) 14, Geofrince Kondwani emerged the winner in the men’s category with 42 stableford points while Bentry Mwenewawo (20h/c) was the runner-up with 40 points.

In professionals’ section, Paul Chadale emerged triumphant with 148 gross over two days. He tied with Victor Kachepatsonga, but Chidale won after a play-off.

Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) ladies golf captain Bose Kamphulusa (27h/c) won the women’s category with 41 points while Jo Yoo finished second.

Kamphulusa attributed her triumph to a vintage display on the last four holes.

“In the course of play, there were rains and we had to stop for a while. At that time we had four holes to play and when play resumed I had renewed purpose,” she said.

James Chimwaza (h/c15) triumphed in the seniors’ category after pipping his runner-up and namesake James ‘JJ’ Chikapa by a point while Folindo Rhodrick won the developmental category.

Sandra Komakech had the longest drive in ladies’ section while Davlin Chokazinga did it in men’s category.

Linda Kunje was nearest to the pin for ladies whereas Jimmy Changa achieved the feat in men’s category.
