“Our business deals with farmers and smallholder farmers are part of that customer base. So, when we heard about Red Cross project, we felt that we could pay back our customers by supporting them,” he said.

Red Cross is running the project and targeting 200 beneficiary households grouped in 10 farmer groups to help them engage in irrigation farming, focusing on maize, beans and vegetables to improve their household nutrition.

Red Cross director of finance Abel Khombe said the project will run from June to December 2025 and seeks to improve household food security, nutrition and promote resilience to climate change shocks.

“We will provide small-scale user-friendly irrigation equipment, train the farmers, provide farm with inputs and identify markets for them,” he said.

Khombe said the project’s initial investment is K7 million and that it will run in collaboration with agriculture structures and other non-governmental organisations at district level
