Firm leads drive to improve learning structures at CDSS

Ambokire Enterprises has encouraged stakeholders to support erecting infrastructure and mobilise learning materials for students at Mayibiyibi Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Karonga District.

The firm’s managing director Ambokire Mwangosi said this on Tuesday during a fundraising activity at the school which attracted stakeholders from various sectors including police officers and NBS Bank officials.

He said his company organised the initiative to support education in the district.

“Investing in education infrastructure is key to improving learners’ performance and creating better opportunities for young people. This is why we have donated learning materials and brought individuals who might help,” said Mwangosi.

The school’s head teacher Hamed Mtafya said the school opened in 2006, but is facing challenges.

“We do not have teachers’ houses, a laboratory, library, adequate desks an administration block, potable water source and printers,” he said.

The school’s head girl Jean Banda also appealed for support towards improving learning conditions, particularly for girls.

“We appeal to well-wishers to help us with water supply in the girls’ hostel,” she said.

Karonga Police Station officer-in-charge Morgan Dzonzi donated 112 notebooks to Form Three and Form Four students and urged learners to refrain from vandalising public infrastructure and cyberbullyin.

Karonga NBS Bank Service Centre manager Roosevelt Nyirenda also pledged to award best-performing students this month.
