Machinga Likwenu MP rolls out youth initiatives
Machinga Likwenu legislator Tulinje Muluzi (United Democratic Front) has launched youth empowerment initiatives, including a driving school and a K20 million football and netball league to transform the lives of young people in the area.
Speaking in an interview, he said the constituency has for years lagged behind in development and that empowering young people was key to changing its future.

Muluzi said the initiatives are designed to create opportunities for youths, promote self-reliance and reduce idleness among young people who continue to struggle with unemployment due to a lack of practical skills and limited opportunities.
“For a long time, our constituency has remained behind in terms of development. We want to change that by giving young people skills, opportunities and hope for a better future,” he said.
Muluzi said the driving school has been introduced to help youths acquire driving skills and licences that can improve their chances of securing employment in both government and private institutions.
Welcoming the development, Liwonde Coaches Association chairperson Victor Gondwe said the competition will provide a platform for identifying and nurturing sporting talent.
“Sports play a critical role in promoting discipline, teamwork and unity, apart from protecting young people from social ills such as drug abuse, crime and early marriages,” he said.
A youth from Molipa Ward, Lukiya Matiya, said the league will provide a platform for young people to showcase their skills and talents.
Traditional Authority Sitola commended the lawmaker for the initiatives, saying they will help address the growing problem of theft and other crimes.
