Mpinganjira: It is with immediate effect

Three other founding directors, namely Humphrey Mvula, former Cabinet minister Clement Stambuli and Ulemu Chilapondwa, who is also legislator for Ntchisi South, have been left out.

Apart from Mpinganjira, other members that have been retained are private practice lawyer Chancy Gondwe, Mervis Mangulenje, Limbani Magomero and Chris Gondwe.

A statement signed by Mpinganjira says the club’s major sponsors Ekhaya Farms Foods Limited and Mukuru Money Transfer Limited will also have representatives in the board as ex-officio members.

Part of the statement, reads: “I, Dr Thomson Mpinganjira, by virtue of the Memorandum and Articles of Association and by being the majority shareholder and president of Mighty Wanderers Football Club (2021) Ltd have appointed [new] directors with immediate effect.

“The Directors appointed herein shall serve for a period of 24 months from the date hereof. The continued service of the said directors in the board shall be on the basis of performance.”

In an interview on Friday, Somba Banda said: “I am humbled to be considered by the president to assist in running this great club with rich history.

“The club went through a bad patch last season, but it has huge potential to do better on and off the pitch and it is a great privilege to be part of this great team to help in turning things around in the Nomads family. So, yes, together let’s make Wanderers mighty again!”

On his part, Kanyenda said: “I am humbled by the appointment. I will devote myself to make the club mighty again together with fellow board members.”

Musa said said he was yet to receive any official communication on his appointment.

“But to be honest, being given a rare chance at a massive team like Mighty Wanderers is something of a dream.

“”Serving Mighty Wanderers is not a sacrifice. It is an honour.”

On the other hand, Mvula and Stambuli said they are not bitter to have been left out and feel happy to have contributed in the transformation of the Nomads into a commercial entity.

Said Mvula: “I have no qualms that I’m no longer a board member and I feel happy to have been a founding board member.

“I am also delighted to have been part of the team which set the ball rolling in the drive to commercialise the club. This is like a relay race and it is time for others to take over.

“Having said that, I wish the president and the entire new board all the best as they continue with the transformation drive.”

On his part, Stambuli said: “Wanderers is an institution and being part of those to have served during the transformation process was a privilege. The team needs people that are committed and there are several others out there who would like to take part in serving the team.

“I am happy to have played a role in turning the club from a community team to a limited liability company. I will remain a Nomad.” Mighty Wanderers (2021) Limited are the owners of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC.
