Good start for Malawi women’s cricket team
Malawi Women’s Cricket National Team on Sunday got off to an impressive start at International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Gaborone, Botswana following a 38-run victory over Cameroon.
The result means Malawi need a win in their last two Group A matches, including on Monday’s clash against Rwanda, to seal a semi-final slot.

They face Lesotho tomorrow in their last group fixture.
On Sunday, Malawi batted first to make a solid total of 111/5 in their 20 overs before bowling Cameroon out for 73 runs in 17.5 overs.
Eva Kabwere was the masterminder of Malawi’s victory as she claimed four wickets and made 12 runs to earn player-of-the-match award, according to Cricket Malawi.
“It is satisfying to help my team win the opening match. This good start is important in our campaign as it boosts our morale ahead of the next fixtures,” she said in an interview.
Group B comprises Botswana, E-swatini, Mozambique and Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile, the going continues to get tough for Malawi Men’s Cricket National Team at the Tri-Nations Series in Kigali, Rwanda, where they have so far lost all their three outings.
On Sunday, they lost by nine wickets to Bahrain, who posted 140/1 in 15.1 overs against Malawi’s 139/7 in 20 overs.
Malawi captain Samil Sohail and Aaftab Limdawala made 60 runs and 45 runs, respectively, but their individual efforts could not save the team from the jaws of defeat.
This was Malawi’s second loss to Bahrain as they also went down by nine runs in their opener a few days ago before losing by six wickets to hosts Rwanda.
