Gor wary of 2nd leg

Despite taking a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg of the Champions League preliminary round, Kenya’s Gor Mahia are worried of what to expect at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday next week.

Substitute Benard Ondiek struck in added time to end a deadlock between the two sides when Bullets felt they had held the hosts.

But the Kenyans have expressed their anxiety on their team’s chances of making it to the second round after the lacklustre performance at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

“We literally dodged a bullet. The good part is in Malawi they have to attack and they will open up spaces at the back, not shut them. Let’s finish the job there,” Goal.com quoted Mike Okinyi.

“I have a bad feeling about the slender 1-0 win over Nyasa Big Bullets. Anything can happen in Malawi come next week. Maybe this season is not for Gor Mahia after all,” the website quoted another Gor Mahia supporter.

The away result means Bullets must avoid any defeat or draw if they want to make it to the next round.

A 1-0 win will also not be good enough as the match will have to go into penalties.

Bullets coach Callisto Pasuwa said the People’s Team will utilise home ground advantage when they host Kenya champions Gor Mahia next week Wednesday.

He said:  “We have seen how they play. Gor Mahia are a very good side. Very solid and they really keep the ball as much as they can. Playing an experienced side like Gor Mahia, it was going to be hard for us but again we conceded in the last minute of the game. It was just a lapse in concentration. We will go back and work on that.”

Meanwhile, the People’s Team jetted back from Kenya yesterday while Silver, who also lost by the same score-line to AO CMS in Confederation Cup at Augustin Monédan , Libreville, Gabon in preliminary and round, are expected back today.
