Inspiring travel through Mr. Malawi Tourism lens
Lovemore Mfunya, widely known as Mr. Malawi Tourism, is a passionate tourism advocate, content creator and youth mentor dedicated to showcasing Malawi’s overlooked beauty and inspiring both locals and international travelers to explore the Warm Heart of Africa responsibly.
His love for tourism began at a young age, shaped by a life filled with long-distance travel and adventure. What started as personal joy soon evolved into a purpose driven mission: To turn his travel experiences into inspiration for others.

“I realized that my travels should not only be happiness inside myself, but also a way to inspire others to travel,” said Mfunya.
Using social media as his primary tool, Mr. Malawi Tourism creates compelling visual content through photos and videos that highlight Malawi’s landscapes, culture, and people.
His platforms feature not only his own captures but also authentic testimonials from tourists who have experienced Malawi first-hand proof that traveling to the country is both possible and deeply rewarding.
“I even post videos from tourists who have come into the country. These videos act as testimonials and help others see that visiting Malawi is doable,” he explained.
Unearthing Malawi’s Hidden Gems
Mfunya is particularly passionate about promoting destinations that are often overlooked. Among his favorite hidden gems are Usisya in Nkhata Bay, Lake Chilwa in Zomba, Elephant Marsh in Chikwawa, the hot springs of Liwonde, Khulubvi Heritage Site in Nsanje, and Hora Mountain in Mzimba.
He said: “We have so many beautiful places in Malawi that we underrate, these destinations deserve attention, investment, and appreciation.”
Empowering youth through tourism
Beyond content creation, Mr. Malawi Tourism plays an active role in youth engagement and education within the tourism sector. He regularly visits institutions offering tourism-related courses, delivering motivational talks and sharing practical insights drawn from real-world experience. He has spoken to students at the Malawi Institute of Tourism and Mzuzu University’s Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, among others.
He also organizes hikes and day trips to introduce young people to adventure tourism while encouraging them to see tourism as both a career path and a tool for national development.
“I am not just working in tourism, I want the youth to take part in it, to own it, and to shape its future,” Mfunya said.
Sustainability is one of the core pillars of Mr. Malawi Tourism’s work. His content consistently promotes community-based tourism, eco-friendly activities, and support for local businesses, while emphasizing respect for local customs and environments.
As a trusted guide, he ensures every adventure begins with education.
“I always advise my clients on the dos and don’ts before we start a new adventure. Responsible travel protects our communities and preserves our destinations,” he added.
A journey to the peak literally and emotionally
One of Mfunya’s most memorable experiences was hiking Sapitwa Peak on Mount Mulanje during the green season. Out of 12 clients, 10 successfully reached the summit, a moment that reinforced his belief in Malawi’s untapped adventure tourism potential.
He said, “That hike reminded me that adventure tourism is not just about visiting destinations, It is about freeing your emotions, hearing fascinating stories, seeing magical views, and making new connections.”
The experience further fueled his desire to document Malawi’s majestic landscapes and inspire hikers from around the world to explore the Mulanje Massif.
A growing impact beyond numbers
Although he may not yet have a massive following, Mfunya’s impact is undeniable. His content reaches audiences far beyond his expectations, especially on Facebook and YouTube, where international tourists frequently comment about their positive experiences in Malawi.
Industry stakeholders have also recognised his contribution, noting that his work is raising awareness about tourism’s power to drive development.
“Some people underrate the power of tourism, but the response I receive shows that the message is reaching far,” he said.
Looking ahead
Through storytelling, mentorship, and responsible exploration, Mfunya continues to redefine how Malawi is seen not just as a destination, but as an experience.
“As Mr Malawi Tourism, I remain committed to inspiring travel, empowering youth, and ensuring that Malawi’s beauty is preserved and celebrated for generations to come,” he said.
