Victor Jere won his third golf title within three weeks when he saw off a field of 61 contestants at Nico General Insurance Company’s Wednesday Ballpool.

Teri Amaro relied on her decade-long experience to amass 18 points and outsmart 15 contestants in the ladies section where Charity Mwachilira counted out Doreen Mwenitete on 16 points to emerge runner-up.

But the limelight was on youthful Jere, who rose from a poor start in the nine-hole contest to finish with 20 points and lift his third trophy in his one-year playing career.

Other youthful golfers, Frank Mwanza and Dingaan Chirwa, finished a single point and two points behind the lawyer to claim second and third slots respectively.

The event started off at the 10th hole and the handicap-19 golfer, who is also a basketball player for Blantyre-based Bricks, was frustrated when he picked a bogey on hole 11.

However, a par on hole 13 lifted up the spirits of the 35-year-old, who got four pars, three bogeys and a double-bogey.

Nico General Insurance’ chief executive officer Eric Chapola urged golfers to buy insurance policies at his company.
