Kabambe commits K6m to Mvama CCAP project

UTM Party president Dalitso Kabambe has committed to pay K1 million every month for the next five months towards the construction of the K500 million Mvama CCAP Multipurpose Hall in Lilongwe.

The former Reserve Bank of Malawi governor made the pledge yesterday after attending the first of three church services at Mvama CCAP under the Nkhoma Synod.

He said he was satisfied with the progress of the project and was willing to support its speedy completion.

Kabambe commended the church for its efforts towards infrastructure development in line with the country’s long-term development strategy, the Malawi 2063.

He said: “I am making my initial contribution of K1 million today. But I have decided to commit K1 million every month for the next five months towards the project.”

Kabambe, a Seventh Day Adventist faithful, said he attended the service to honour an earlier invitation to attend the project’s fundraising event on December 7.

In his remarks, Mvama CCAP Moderator the Reverend Hamilton Yasin Gama said they were honoured by the presence of Kabambe alongside other UTM Party officials who worshipped at the church and rendered financial support to the project.

“This being the house of God, Mvama welcomes all people to join the church in worship,” he said.

Yasin Gama said the multipurpose hall will have 1 200 holding capacity.

Kabambe, stepped into Chilima’s shoes for a five-year term at UTM Party convention  on November 17 in Mzuzu after amassing a massive 636 votes against 26 for Engineer Newton Kambala, 22 for corporate executive Matthews Mtumbuka and 21 for former UTM secretary general Patricia Kaliati.
