TNM Super League pacesetters Kamuzu Barracks (KB) said they were frustrated after their home ground remarkable run was brought to a halt by Mafco on Saturday

KB were left searching their soul after they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Mafco at the dreaded Dedza Stadium, their first home defeat

“It was painful to lose at Dedza Stadium which we proudly turned into a fortress,” said team manager Francis Shawa.

However, the KB official attributed the slump to excitement having finished the first-round of the league at the top and winning the Carlsberg Cup.

“I think excitement somehow crept in, we got carried away with the good run and sat on our laurels.

“Following our impressive run, we became the team to beat and that should have put us on guard. Unfortunately, we did not see that coming and we lost it,” said Shawa.

He also said there are lessons to be drawn from the loss.

“It has given us food for thought and I want to assure our fans that we’ll bounce back. There is nothing to worry about,” said Shawa.

Coach Billy Phambala said it is part of the game.

“We would have loved to continue with the good run, but at some point, we were bound to falter and probably last Saturday was the day.

“But we will recover, it is part of the game,” said Phambala.

Despite the loss, KB still top the flagship league table with 30 points from 16 games of which they have won eight, drawn six and lost twice. Their other defeat was away to Epac in the first round.
