Lions fail to dislodge KB

Listen to this article

Red_lions_eviromTNM Super League leaders Kamuzu Barracks (KB) still top the 15-member league after their close pursuers blew hold and cold in tightly contested weekend matches that produced gallons of sweat but spoonful goals.

KB, who lost 4-2 to Mafco on Saturday, top the standings on 30 points, one ahead of Red Lions, Mighty Wanderers and Blue Eagles who each have 29 points.

Goal aggregates separate the Lions, Wanderers and the Eagles down the pecking order in the second week of the second round.

This was the case after hosts Silver Strikers thumped the Lions 3-0 yesterday for the Bankers to cement their fifth place on 28 points, thanks to goals from Dave Moya, Green Harawa and substitute Chawanangwa Kaonga at Silver Stadium.

The defeat had the Lions leaving Lilongwe with just a point as they drew 2-2 with Mponela United the previous day.

At Kamuzu Stadium, Medson Kachepa’s solitary strike had Evirom starting the second round strongly by beating Civo United 1-0, a day after the civil servants’ brave goalless draw with Big Bullets at the same venue.

In Mzuzu, Moyale Barracks denied visiting Blantyre United a perfect outing, defeating them 2-1 in what was a similar result the Elia Kananji men chalked in easing past Mzuzu United on Saturday.
