The stage is set. The lights are on. The international artists as well as the local artists are in. And the fans cannot wait to enjoy three days of music, dance, poetry, fashion and visual arts. This is the Lake of Stars (LoS) Arts Festival 2018.

Taking place at Kabumba Hotel in Salima, the festival promises to bring locals and visitors together in celebration of culture and arts.

LoS country coordinator Yolanda Ng’oma said all arrangements regarding the staging of the 15th arts and cultural festival are on track and festival-goers should brace for three days of endless fun.

“Everything as regards the staging of the festival is ready,” she said.

Almost 30 acts billed to perform at the festival have been drawn from outside Malawi some coming from as far as Europe and within Africa.

Ng’oma said: “Announcements of acts are never made till artists have made their confirmation through the signing of contracts. So unless something happens that is beyond the control of both parties, all 30 artists will perform.”

This year the festival has two main stages, the Hivos stage and the TNM beach stage where the majority of the performances will take place. Other activities will include skating lessons and a fashion show to be run by the Mzuzu Fashion Week (MFW).

Some of the local artists billed to perform, say they are set to show the world that Malawi has what it takes to shine musically on the global stage.

Hip hop artist Fredokiss said: “It is a big international stage. We want to represent Malawi in a special way by sharing the ghetto stories and experiences through music. But most of all we want to have fun with all the festival-goers.”

Rapper Macelba said his band is ready to set the LoS stage on fire.

On his part Suffix said: “I have a big surprise for my fans. They should come and be part of history. We want to make this a moment they will cherish forever.”

Today’s lineup has artists such as Suffix, Love Ssega, Berita, DJ Bubblegum, Drew Moyo, George Kalukusha and Positive Yut.

Tomorrow the performances will be headlined by Sauti Sol from Kenya, Frekodiss, Kim of Diamonds, Lusubiro Band and Zathu Band, among others.

The climax will probably be on Sunday when USA-based Major Lazer will take to the stage. Others are Faith Mussa, Fikisa and VJ Ice, among others. na
