Chatsalira: We expect a tough game

TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanders can catch up with leaders Red Lions or even dislodge them after facing Blue Eagles and Moyale Barracks respectively today.

Silver travel to Nankhaka ground buoyed by two consecutive wins; the latest being a 1-0 win over Mponela United on Wednesday that stretched the Bankers’ tally to 38 points—two behind the Lions.

Mindful of first-round home 0-1 loss to the Eagles, Silver winger Ndaziona Chatsalira was on Thursday optimistic but cautious, noting: “We expect a tough game, but we will do all we can to emerge from the pitch with maximum points. It is our wish to retain the title.”

The Eagles are not consistent having lost 1-0 at home to Moyale Barracks last Sunday and remain on 34 points. The loss thwarted Eagles chairperson George Kainja’s wish for seven consecutive league wins.

On the pitch, wingers John Banda and Micium Mhone have regularly delivered the goods while Silver will pin their hopes on Green Harawa and Chawanangwa Kaonga’s form.

In Blantyre today, Blantyre United, engages at Kamuzu Stadium, Big Bullets who are smarting from a damaging 3-1 loss to Red Lions last Saturday. It will be Gerald Phiri Snr’s first game as Bullets head coach.

Bullets’ rivals Mighty Wanderers will be at their Balaka home to face Moyale Barracks whereas in form Azam Tigers travel to Lilongwe to face Civo United whose general secretary Rashid Ntelela hopes for an escape from relegation.

“We are fourth from the bottom, which is not a good place. But the new panel [of Oscar Kaunda] has just lost once in the league and we hope that if we win three or four games, we will rise,” said Ntelela.

Tomorrow, pacesetters the Lions can march closer to their first-ever top-flight league title when they face Epac FC at Silver Stadium. In another game Tigers will face Mponela United.
