Rotary Club of Limbe has inducted the first female president Ulanda Mtamba since it was formed in 1978 in Malawi.

She officially took over the reins from July 1 2023 during a glamorous event at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

Mtamba has been a Rotary member since November 2019 and has served as secretary twice, youth director and coordinator for rotary family health days.

In an interview yesterday, she said she will uphold the club’s principles of integrity, diversity and service above self.

Mtamba: Let us serve people

She said there were many needy people in communities that need help in health and education as well as clean water and food.

Said Mtamba: “Let us all be ready to make people’s lives better in any way that we can.

“It’s at Rotary Club where I find a purpose for life, for I am able to give back and serve my community. Rotary contribute positively to the continuance and wellbeing of humanity.”

With this year’s focus on ‘Create hope in the world’, she says she will focus on building strong membership for the club, raise its public image and deliver various projects on health, education, environment protection and build new relationships and establishing collaborations with organisations that share the club’s vision.

Before handing over the mantle, outgoing president Edward Dziphonje said despite 2023 being a difficult year with a lot of health and natural disasters, the club achieved the best results in the District 9120 in terms of success project delivery and received prestigious awards.

Mtamba is currently Advancing Girls Education in Africa country director and is a seasoned chartered marketer.
