Luwemba launches K1.6m sports trophy

People’s Party (PP) deputy director of political affairs Levy Luwemba on Sunday launched a K1.6 million football and netball trophy to be competed by youths in Kawale, Chilinde and Area 23 in Lilongwe.
The launch coincided with prize presentation for winners of Luwemba’s previous tournament.
Chilinde Warriors are the current holders of the annual trophy after beating Athletic FC 8-7 in penalty shoot outs.
In netball finals, Chilinde Primary School thrashed Don Bosco Splash 53-15.
The launch ceremony, which took place at a packed Chilinde Primary School ground, was graced by Minister of Trade and Industry Sosten Gwengwe who was accompanied by Mchinji South West parliamentarian Mussa Banda.
Gwengwe described sports as a unifying factor among religions, races and political parties.
“Apart from that sports keeps young people fit and focused. It is also a known fact that young people who take part in sports live a relatively healthy life. I thank Mr. Luwemba for complementing government efforts in developing sports at grass roots,” said Gwengwe.
Luwemba, who is aspiring for a parliamentary seat in the area, said his sponsorship has nothing to do with politics, but just the love of sports.
“We all have to do our part in assisting the youth,” said Luwemba.
