Malawi Fashion Week launch Friday
All roads lead to Umodzi Park in Lilongwe Friday to witness the launch of the first-ever Malawi Fashion Week (MFW).
According to chief executive officer of MFW, Dawa Loga Lemberger, everything is set for the grand launch which will start at 6.30 pm.
“People must expect to see dynamic performances by the models who have discovered many new skills, and another dimension of entertainment within themselves.
“There are so many beautiful designs that will be on show and I am so scared I will be broke because I want to buy everything,” said Lemberger.
Twelve Malawian designers will be showcasing their art of making irresistible attires, with sleek and stunning models rocking the ramp.
She said it is only now that they have put the full list of designers together that she has realised how much talent the country has which would otherwise not have been shown.
The official opening takes place on Friday evening with Minister of Tourism Rachel Mazombwe Zulu as the guest of honour.
The fashion week runs from today till Monday and models from Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa are already in the country to participate in the making of history and the launch of Malawi’s first fashion week.
“It is a blessing that models from other countries have embraced our fashion week and want to be part of Malawi’s fashion history,” she said.
Several surprise performances from both the models and others have been lined up. It is expected that artists such as Lulu will give performances, including that of the MFW theme song Malawi Tiyealongside Goma Nyasulu, Adrian, Chichie, Vitu K, Alex and Dawa. Sundaywill be gospel night concert.
