Mathumela Festival for youth inspiration
Mathumela Music Festival organisers say this year’s event seeks to inspire the youth to follow their dream.
To be held under the theme ‘Ghetto is not a barrier, create your own world’, the festival will tackle the youth’s potential and means of making money using their talents and skills.
In an interview, founder of the festival, musician Lulu said the theme seeks to inspire the youth from the ghetto to realise and embrace their full potential regardless of the barriers they face.
He said: “We want to challenge a paradigm which some people hold that the ghetto is where all bad things happen or where the youth have no vision.
“But we would like to set the record straight that the ghetto is a place of hope where successful people like entrepreneurs and musicians come from and these are people that the ghetto youths can learn from.”
Lulu, who started his music career in Lilongwe’s Kawale, said this year’s Mathumela Festival will settle for nothing, but to unleash the power of the ghetto youths.
The festival, which will take place on December 3 at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe, will be supported by Kondwani Chirwa, Anne Matumbi, Jah Flavour, Minister Takondwa, Gwamba, Charisma, Cutey B, Wendy Harawa and Kellie Divine Njuchi.
On his part, Matumbi said he was set to bring his music experience light up the festival.
“I have been entertaining people since the 1990s and my music still entertains and touches people’s lives in a special way. People should attend the Mathumela Music Festival,” he said.
