Mawhoo in living colour

South African amapiano music hotshot Mawhoo was in town on Sunday when she performed at the Bingu International Convention Centre Amphitheater in Lilongwe.

She was just about everything that her fans have seen and heard on television.

Mawhoo oozed the real glamour of a typical primadonna. Her presence alone brought an assuring feeling.

She dressed in a simple pink top and short outfit which gave out nothing, but her classy touch and she complemented that with a hearty performance.

The singer came on stage minutes after 1am and she introduced herself with her song Ngilemele.

The audience which hitherto followed proceedings from the comfort of their seats soon erupted into an unimaginable uproar. Everyone moved to the stage to get a closer feel of Mawhoo’s magic.

She sang and danced, and the audience sang along. Two of her popular songs Uzizwa Kanjani and

Bengicela were the biggest toast on the night.

If she had doubts about her popularity in Malawi, then she was in for a surprise. When Mawhoo

asked the audience if anyone knew her song Gucci. Quickly a lady from the audience stepped up and sang the opening lines of the song.

She was left in utter awe as she took over the microphone to perform what would be her last song on the night. Her 50 minutes on stage were nothing, but memorable.

Before her were performances from Zeze Kingston, Temwah and Joe Ikon, who sweated her energy out at The Mawhoo Experience organised by Impakt Events, promoters of Sand Music Festival.

If anyone needed a push to get into the groove after the delayed start if the performances on the night, then Joe Ikon provided more than what was needed.

Music ace Lulu was tasked with bringing the curtain down and he did justice to the cause. Not in his trademark small shorts, Lulu demonstrated growing masterly of the music business.

Alcoholic spirit marketers CapeStars, the official sponsors of the event, said they were glad the show lived up to its billing.

CapeStars general manager Darlington Ndasauka said: “It is always pleasing when Malawians stand up for each other to support local enterprises such as these. Impakt Events Management has set up the tone for next year’s Sand Music Festival and they have once again shown that they are still the leaders when it comes to delivering top class entertainment
