Mchinji District Council approves K37bn budget
Mchinji District Council on Wednesday approved a K37 billion budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The district’s finance service committee chairperson Henry Nyamaulo described it as “a budget for the people” as it focuses on critical development needs of the district.
He said that the budget would fund service delivery and infrastructure development in health, education and agriculture sectors.

Said Nyamaulo: “In the 2025/2026 fiscal year, we are committed to strengthening monitoring and supervision. No contractor will receive payment without our supervision and certification of the project.
“If citizens observe any issues or lack of progress on development projects, they are encouraged to report them to relevant authorities for action.”
He further said the budget includes a review of taxes and fees, such as market fees, ground rent and registration and estate licensing fees.
In an interview, Mchinji district council chairperson Dorothy Mussa commended council members for approving the budget.
“Last week, the house could not approve the budget due to some issues that required clarification from the Finance Service Committee.
“But we are pleased that members have finally approved the budget that remains a crucial tool for delivering social services across the district,” she said.
