Namibia yet to throw in the towel

They are on position three in the group, two points short of leaders Nigeria and Malawi on five points, yet Namibia believe they are just as much in contention to progress in the 2014 World Cup qualification as they face the Flames today.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars are at the bottom with two points

Namibian Football Association (NFA) president John Muinjo has described the fixture today as the most crucial if they are to progress.

“The match on Wednesday in Blantyre as well as the clash against Nigeria at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on June 12 are important fixtures and the players are aware of what is at stake,” said Muinjo in an interview with The Namibian yesterday.

“We have to do well and we are confident that the team will deliver. I have spoken to the captain, Da Costa Angula and the whole team and they are aware of what we are expecting from them, and how they must approach the game. Now, it is up to the technical team and the players to deliver and we are confident they will,” he said.

NFA have left no stone unturned in their quest to cause an upset today as they have included in the squad all their best players, including Thailand-based Lazarus Kaimbi and Tangeni Shipahu; and Germany-based Manfred Starke.

If Malawi win today, they will top the group with eight points, thereby piling pressure on Nigeria to win all their remaining fixtures.
