New Version face Matindi Girls in finals

New Version will face Matindi Girls in the Central Region Matindi Women Football Trophy on Saturday at Civo Stadium.

Matindi beat Chinsapo 3-0 in the semi-finals last Saturday at Kamuzu Barracks Secondary School.

In the other semi-final, New Version beat Kamuzu Barracks 4-0 at the same venue.

New Version forward Dabitsa Chawinga is set to be crowned the Golden Boot Award winner unless a miracle happens. She has scored 10 goals.

Central Region Women Football Committee general secretary Fagness Kazingatchire, who is coordinating the tournament, said everything is set for the finals.

“The sponsors have confirmed their presence and Saturday is convenient for all stakeholders. It has been a wonderful league and we are hoping the finals will not be disappointing as well,” said Kazingatchire.

She has urged women football team coaches and the women football national coach to scout for talent at the finals.

“I am confident that teams playing in bigger leagues and also the national coach will be able to spot raw talent from these two schools,” she said.

According to Kazingatchire, winners will pocket K500 000 (about $1 250), runners-up will collect K450 000 (about $1 125) while third and fourth-placed teams will receive K150 000 (about $375) and K100 000 (about $250) respectively.

She said there will also be individual prizes.
