NGO drills youths in leadership skills
Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation project officer Burton Theu has urged the youth in Karonga District to desist from inciting political violence.
In an interview on Saturday after a four-day capacity building in youth leadership at Chiwondo in Traditional Authority Kyungu in the district, he said time has come for the youth to take part in development activities.
Said Theu: “The training focused on mindset change as it is key to everything. For example, the youth have to realise that they have the potential to prevent political violence.
“Again, as the country is heading towards the September 16 2025 General Elections, we want the youth to avoid being used by aspiring candidates to incite violence.”
On his part, Lupembe Youth Network chairperson Praise Mwasabi said they were ready to spearhead change in the area.
“The training comes at a time aspiring candidates have already started criss-crossing our neighbourhoods, canvassing for votes,” he said.
Karonga district youth officer Lapken Liwago, whose presentation focused on mindset change and advocacy for conflict resolution and peace building, thanked the organisation for facilitating the training.
“As we approach 2025 General Elections, we want the youth to reach their fellow youths and communities with messages of peace,” he said.
Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation in partnership with Foundation for Civic Education and Social Empowerment is implementing a Peace Building Project in the district with support from the United Nations Secretary General’s Peace Building Fund through the United Nations Population Fund.
