Nice drills journalists in investigative reporting
The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has dared journalists in Mangochi District to go an extra mile in their work by doing more investigative stories.
The district’s Nice programme officer Joseph Chamambala said this on Tuesday in the district when the organisation engaged the district’s-based journalists.
“You need to unearth stories that can influence decision-makers and effect change in the district,” he said.
Chamambala said Nice is implementing a number of interventions that seek to empower people to engage duty-bearers and demand better services.
“Expose dubious activities in the district. This will promote transparency and accountability on the implementation of projects,” he said.
Mangochi Nice District Advisory Forum chairperson Fahd Kamsuli described journalists as influential and asked them to disseminate information that benefits citizens.
“You are important people in the society and we revere you. Your bar is equal to that of the judges, therefore, use your position to come up with stories that can help the district,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the journalists, the district’s information officer Bishop Witmos hailed Nice for the engagement, saying it equipped them with important information.
“We have learnt how we can write stories to expose corruption,” he said.
Nice held the workshop with funding from the European Union under Boma Lathu Project.
