Nice in video shows for civic education

National Initiative for Civic Education trust (Nice) is utilising every trick available in its efforts to reach out to every eligible voter with the message ‘go and register to participate in next year’s tripartite elections’.

The trust is using renowned artists such as dramatists, gospel and secular musicians to entice people to attend its civic and voter education rallies.

Nice has also introduced football and netball trophies in some parts of the country; all in the name of disseminating voter and civic education to all the masses around the country.

And today, the civic educator is adding another trick in the book as it rolls out free video shows in Blantyre where people will be watching thrilling, but recorded European matches between Barcelona and Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, among others.

According to Blantyre Urban district civic education officer (DCEO), Bowlanda Monjeza, Nice in conjunction with the Ministry of Information will mount big screens in residential areas at centres where people can feel secure to go and watch these matches.

Monjeza said the programme will run for the next seven days during which people will be treated to fun while being imparted with information on why they need to register and participate in the 2014 elections.

“All the centres will be opening at 6pm and close at 8pm. I promise fun and more fun during this period,” said Monjeza.

He said his organisation will be free to take on board people’s views on the type of videos they would like to watch to ensure that no voter is left out in the programme.

“We’re very mindful of the fact that not all like football. That’s why we’ll be comfortable to accommodate people’s views on what they should watch on a particular day.

“Apart from that, people will also find entertainment in drama and music since we’ll be accompanied by different artists in all our activities. I just urge all people to come and participate in these video and road shows,” said Monjeza.
