Nice Trust aligns strategic plan to Peace and Unity Act

National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has aligned its five-year strategic plan to the newly-passed Peace and Unity Act, especially on the mindset change enabler in the Malawi 2063 (MW2063).

Nice Trust board chairperson Zolomphi Nkowani said this on Wednesday in Lilongwe during the launch of the trust’s strategic plan, whose theme is Strengthening Accountability, Transparency and Responsiveness among Malawians.

He said the main pillars of the plan are good governance, accountability and national unity.

Nkowani said: “Nice Trust is expected to take a leading role in the implementation of the MW2063 mindset change agenda under the guidance of the Ministry of National Unity.”

He said the agenda is aimed at inspiring Malawians to change their ways of thinking and doing things.

This, Nkowani said, led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between National Planning Commission (NPC) and Nice Trust in May 2021 in which the latter’s role is to mainstream MW2063 messages in its activities.

In his remarks, Minister of National Unity Timothy Mtambo hailed Nice Trust for adopting mindset change as a key pillar in the MW2063 into the new strategic plan.

He said: “The two documents are talking the same language which is to make Malawians change the way they have been seeing things. This has dragged the country backwards. We hope all of us can now start seeing things in a progressive way.”

On his part, NPC director of learning and knowledge Joseph Nagoli said the mindset change agenda seeks to inspire Malawians to change. Meanwhile, European Union head of delegation Rune Skinnebach has hailed the strategic plan, saying it is an important and strong document which requires good guidance and political will to be translated into action.
