No service at Kamuzu Central Hospital today

Unless Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Godfrey Kamanya, apologises publicly over his remarks he made earlier in Phalombe, Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) staff will abscond duties.

Kamanya is said to have said that “all those going to Parliament to hand out the petition are members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).”

Speaking on the sidelines of an emergency meeting called by the Minister of Health Gotani Hara over the shortage of medical supplies, including medications, one of the medical personnel William Banda, described Kamanya’s remarks as very unfortunate.

“Tomorrow [Thursday], we are not working, until he apologises. We are not politicians, we want him to clarify if he has seen us eat with them [DPP], [some] of us have worked with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regime as [mere] civil servants. We will never be politicians and we don’t want to be,” he said.
