Nomads keep up pressure on Bullets
Mighty Wanderers kept up the pressure on their arch-rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the TNM Super League title chase when they edged fellow Blantyre-based Ekhaya FC 1-0 yesterday at Kamuzu Stadium.
Striker Promise Kamwendo was the toast of the afternoon for the Nomads after scoring the lone goal in the 59th minute. He swung upfield to head home player-of-the-match Dan Kudonto’s well-curled corner-kick.
Following the victory, the Lali Lubani Road side is tied on 59 points with leaders FCB Nyasa Bullets who sit at the summit have a better goal difference.
Both teams have four games apiece before they wind up the season in what is turning out to be a tight race.

The Nomads were in control of the proceedings from the word go, but could not break the deadlock.
As time ticked on, the stadium oozed anxiety until Kamwendo strick the lone goal and relief was written all over the faces of the Nomads’ faithful.
In an interview, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira said it was a tough match.
He said: “We anticipated that it would be tough, but credit to the boys for fighting on until we got the winning goal. It takes some pressure off, but the battle is still on.
“As I said, we will keep fighting to the last match and see what happens.”
At Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, third-placed and reigning champions Silver Strikers continued to breath down the Nomads’ and Bullets’ necks when they thumped Karonga-based table-anchors Songwe Border United 6-0 in a one-sided contest at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Bankers were two-up in under 30 minutes after Emmanuel Allan put them in front after 18 minutes before McDonald Lameck doubled their advantage eight minutes later.
Festus Duwe added the third in the 69th minute before Uchizi Vunga claimed the fourth six minutes later.
Lameck claimed a brace and the hosts’ fifth from the penalty spot in the 86th minute following a foul before Zebron Kalima closed the score sheet in the dyimg minutes.
Silver now have 53 points from 25 matches.
In other matches, Blue Eagles of Lilongwe beat Chitipa United 3-1 at Nankhaka in the capital city, Civil Service United also from Lilongwe beat Mzuzu-based Moyale Barracks 3-0 at Civo Stadium while Kamuzu Barracks edged Creck Sporting Clun 1-0. in an all-Lilongwe affair.
