remierBet Malawi says it will fast-track the  construction of an international standard netball court at the Zingwangwa Youth Centre in Blantyre to ensure that it is completed by April this year.

Initially, the betting company said the project would take a year.

The company’s chief executive officer Younes Fades said this on Friday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the netball academy project.

PremierBet signed a corporate social responsibility agreement with Blantyre City Council, which will see the betting firm injecting over K80 million into sports infrastructure development at the youth centre with emphasis on netball court construction as part of netball academy establishment.

Fades (R), Chanza (C) and Mijiga lay the foundation on the project

PremierBet has also pledged to renovate the football pitch and basketball court at the facility.

Said Fades: “The netball court will be ready for activities by April. Construction will now start within  two weeks as we do not want to delay on this project.

“Everything to do with the construction of this facility such as construction materials are readily available and we are good to go.”

Blantyre City Council director of town planning and estate services Costly Chanza said they were happy to see PremierBet fulfilling their promise and has since urged the public to take care of the sports infrastructure, saying it is sad to note the rising cases of vandalism in the commercial city.

Malawi Gaming and National Lotteries Authority chief executive officer Rachel Mijiga hailed PremierBet for the project, saying infrastructure development  is important for the country’s social and economic development.

“It is for this reason that we urge other firms to emulate what PremierBet is doing by coming up with long-lasting initiatives,” she said.
