Prison warder kills two villagers in Nsanje

malawi-policeHell broke loose in Malawi’s southern trading town of Makhanga in Nsanje District when a prison warder at Makhanga Prison shot dead two people and injured five others.

The fatal incident happened when the warders were trying to disperse hundreds of angry villagers who were demanding the head of a person they believe committed a crime and was being remanded at the prison.

An ambulance driver Newton Chamdambo, who collected the dead bodies and those injured from Masenjele Health Centre to Fatima Hospital said one prison warder fired at the people during the fracas and instantly killed one person and injured a 15-year-old boy who was pronounced dead at Trinity Mission Hospital in the district.

“I carried two dead bodies of a relatively grown up man and a teenager. I also picked five people who have bullets wound of various degrees,” Chamdambo told Nation Online.
