The consortium has embraced new targeting criteria of Joint Emergency Food Assistance Programme (Jepad) for 2017/18 Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (Mvac) response that use village civil protection committees and communities to identify beneficiaries.

One of the community members, Ndamichedye Dyson, said the procedure will ensure food inesure households benefit from humanitarian assistance.

“Only the intended beneficiaries have been targeted,” she said.

In an interview, Machinga assistant district disaster risk management officer Shepherd Jere said the procedure should be emulated in all projects for sustainable development of the district.

According to a Mvac report, over one million people in the country’s 28 districts need relief food assistance in the 2017/18 lean season food insecurity response programme. n
