Sailesi received K350 000 for his feat plus a trophy, Chidale got K200 000 while Mphula received K150 000. There were also cash prizes for fourth (K80 000), fifth (K70 000) and sixth-placed (K50 000).

In his victory speech, Sailesi thanked companies that sponsored the event through Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Malawi. The sponsors included Ethanol Company Limited (Ethco) Malawi who contributed K400 000, Plascon Paints (K270 000), ICTC Malawi (K230 000) and Wheel Masters (K100 000).

“We were all motivated to give our best. It was a close call. Chidale and Mphula gave me tough competition, but I was very focused. I am thankful to management of Kasasa Golf Club for the organisation of the tournament. But I am also appreciative to all the four companies that co-sponsored the tournament,” said Sailesi.

PGA interim president Partridge Shycal also commended the fsponsors.

“They made this possible and it has been a success. We are indebted to Ethco, Plascon, Wheel Masters and ICTC Malawi for their recognition of the professional game and their financial contribution. On the course, we saw good golf and it is evident the country has good golfers who only need exposure and encouragement,” he said.

Ethco chief executive officer Lusibilo Chakaniza, who presented the prizes , thanked golfers for an exciting tournament.
