Artists from Salima have joined forces to embark on an awareness campaign on Covid -19 pandemic which has affected the world.

The aim of the initiative is to sensitise people in the district to the dangers of the disease and orient them on health and safety precautionary measures to avoid contracting the disease.

Ice Kid: The fusion of genres is important

One of the artists involved Levison Masamba said the group has composed a song titled Mujivikilire which means ‘let us prevent’ which is addressing issues on how best people can prevent  Corona virus.

He pointed out that most people in the rural communities do not know about the virus; hence, composition of the song to raise awareness on the disease for people to take precautionary measures.

“Many people in rural areas are unable to access informative messages due to different factors which prevent them from receiving such messages unlike their counterparts in urban areas who easily access information through different platforms,” said Masamba.

He said most of them are unable to access information due to their mindset towards a particular medium which carries the messages, among other factors.

In his sentiments, Precious Chirwa, whose stage name is Ice Kid, said the song targets a wide range of people.

He said: ‘‘The fusion of genres and artists is very important because you are able reach to different audiences. The song has diversity and caters for different tastes and we believe that music is the most powerful information dissemination tool because it easily spreads the messages to the masses.’’ The song features Masamba, Ice Kid, Gospel Soldier, Mashin Kadzuwa, Cliff Jolam, Gacko and Lucy Mkandawire.
