Students ready to showcase talent
Students have a chance to showcase their talents when the 17th edition of National Schools Arts Festival and International Youth Cultural Festival kicks off today at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe.
The festival, organised by Light of Youth Creative Organisation (Lyco), will bring together young artists from Malawi, Zambia, and South Africa to celebrate cultural diversity.

In an interview yesterday, Lyco director James Kitchen said everything is set and they are ready to deliver.
“We are excited to report that everything is in place. Our team has worked tirelessly and we have confirmed participation of all international groups and our local partners,” he said.
On Wednesday, the first group of participants from South Africa named Siyasindisa Theatre Works arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
One of the organisers, Shafiq Kalumo said the festivals have helped to promote arts and culture among young people.
The festival will feature a variety of performances, including music, dance, theatre and poetry.
Other highlights will include arts and crafts exhibitions, storytelling sessions and traditional games.
There will also be workshops on playwriting, directing and stage management.
The three-day festival will be held under the theme Preserving our Folktales and Folksongs.
Draper Community Day Secondary School from Blantyre won last year’s competition.
