Lawi highlights African experiences in new album
Revered jazz artist Lawi is set to release an 18-track album this year, breaking a four- year silence.
Two of the album’s songs, Day Time and Titani Nawo Anawa were premiered on Channel Africa’s Africa Tonight programme on Saturday.

Lawi told Channel Africa that his new album, My Father’s Land, is a creative collection of thoughts and experiences from a passionate son of Africa.
“I am an African child who is out to tell unheard stories and experiences of Africa. This continent is beautiful with amazing stories about our diverse cultures and traditions,” he said.
Musician-cum-producer Thocco Phiri said the songs in the album are nice.
He said: “Listening to Titani Nawo Anawa which was premiered on channel Africa, one is left with an impression that Lawi is one of the big things on the African continent. His lyrics are inspiring because they tell authentic African stories that epitomise African people.
“I can’t wait for the release of the full album because it is filled with moving stories from Malawi and Africa, as a whole.”
Lawi said he has completed work on the new album whose production started in 2022.
“It will be released under Lawi Group in September this year. The production has taken me almost three years because I started recording the album a year after releasing my last album in 2021. What an incredible journey it has been!” he said, adding the album will be promoted across the African region.
Lawi is a versatile artist who doubles as a singer and producer who has produced the new album himself at his studio in Lilongwe.
“Malawi is home to an endless pool of art. This time around, we are exporting Malawi music to the world that’s why Channel Africa booked me,” said the Amaona Kuchedwa star.
