Revered Malawi women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga is expected to complete a one-year loan move to French women’s football top-flight league side Paris Saint Germain (PSG) following protracted negotiations yesterday.

The Scorchers captain is set to start a new lease of life in the glitz and glamour of the world’s fashion capital, Paris, after signing the deal from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda yesterday.
The player’s local manager Theana Msolomba said the talks had been going on for weeks.
“Of course, there were other offers, but the viable option was the loan move to PSG, considering that interests of her parent club also had to be respected,” she said.

But The Nation established yesterday that an agreement has been reached, but the club will provide more details in due course.

Msolomba also said the prolific forward has also signed a sponsorship deal with  athletic footwear and apparel maker, Nike.

In an interview yesterday, the 27-year-old said she is excited with the prospect of facing a a new challenge in France.

She said: “I cannot confirm anything yet, but I am super excited with the prospect of a move to PSG. They  are a big club and I look forward to adding value, but nothing has been finalised yet.”

Last season, Tabitha also spent a season at Italian Serie A Feminile giants Inter Milan where she won the golden boot with 23 goals in 21 matches, becoming the first African to achieve that feat.
