Tay Grin steals show at Zomba City Festival
Award winning hip hop artist and tourism ambassador Tay Grin lit up the final night of the fifth Zomba City Festival held on Sunday.
Also known as the Nyau King, the musician, real name Limbani Kalirani, delivered a powerful set, featuring hits such as Kanda, 2by2 and Foto.

His performance blended hip hop with traditional Malawian culture, keeping fans on their feet.
Speaking after his set, Tay Grin praised the festival’s impact.
He said: “It has shown what people can do in Zomba. Many can learn more about this beautiful city and I expect the next edition to be even greater.”
“The crowd’s energy was beyond my expectation. I don’t joke about culture and if one knows their roots, they respect them. As the Nyau King, I carry my culture everywhere I go.”
As a tourism ambassador, Tay Grin reflected on his connection to Zomba.
“The city’s history embraces me. My shows at the University of Malawi played a big role in shaping who I am,” he said.
The festival also featured Bucci, who performed Love. He called the event “more than a festival, a moment to embrace Zomba’s beauty.”
R’n’B artist Theresa Phondo expressed joy for the audience’s support during her performance.
On his part, Amaryllis Hotel manager Ramy Waheed encouraged collaboration.
“Up-and-coming artists and creatives must support each other to build a better Malawi,” he said.
The fifth Zomba City Festival wrapped up on a high note, serving as a vibrant platform for talent, culture and artistic exchange. It reinforced the city’s identity as a creative hub.
