UMP Fest, 4Kaya Filmz announce partnership
Cape Maclear International Film Festival, an initiative under the UMP Festival, has partnered with 4Kaya Filmz, producers of School Days and Welcome to Maula Prison movies.
UMP Festival chief executive officer Aisha De Silva said the collaboration aligns with the festival’s mission to serve as a premier platform for celebrating cinematic artistry, fostering cultural exchange and elevating diverse voices in storytelling.

She said: “As UMP, we are committed to championing authentic African narratives and strengthening the creative economy through impactful partnerships.
“Collaborating with 4Kaya Filmz to showcase Welcome to Maula Prison at the festival reinforces our goal to spotlight powerful local stories and voices behind them.”
De Silva said the collaboration with 4Kaya Filmz is one of the initiatives to ensure that the 2025 UMP Festival offers unforgettable experience to festival goers.
4Kaya Filmz producer Kendall Kamwendo said they are excited with the partnership.
“This partnership comes at a crucial time. We believe it will not only benefit both organisations, but also extend immense value to film enthusiasts in Malawi and beyond,” he said.
As part of the partnership, Welcome to Maula Prison will be screened at the 2025 edition of the UMP Festival scheduled for Cape Maclear in Mangochi from October 21 to 27.
Attendees will enjoy an exclusive appearance by the film’s cast and crew, including meet-and-greet sessions, a Q and A forum and an engaging panel discussion.
The movie was premiered in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre last weekend. It explores themes of justice, humanity and resilience that resonates both locally and globally.
