Teams regroup next month
Most of the TNM Super League teams have said they will start pre-season preparations early next month.
The teams have also said they will beef up their squads.

Reigning champions Silver Strikers, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who were the runners-up, FCB Nyasa Bullets, who finished third and Mzuzu City Hammers, who were fourth, have said they will regroup in the first week of February.
Silver coach Peter Mgangira in an interview yesterday said: “Everything being equal, we are looking at hitting the ground running first week of February and we will definitely beef up the squad.”
In an interview, Wanderers chief executive officer (CEO) Panganeni Ndovi also said: “Very likely the first week of February.”
On whether a decision has been made to continue with acting coach Bob Mpinganjira or hire an expatriate, the Nomads CEO said: “At the moment, we are with Bob until another decision is made.”
Ndovi also said they will be advised by the coach on which areas need fine tuning, but they have already roped in striker Promise Kamwendo from PremierBet Dedza Dynamos.
On his part, Hammers coach Kondwani Ikwanga said they are looking at regrouping the first week of February to give his charges ample time to rest.
“On beefing up the squad, we’ll definitely have to do that because we might lose some of our players to other teams because of the team’s good performance last season,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mzuzu-based Moyale Barracks have already started their preparations through trials.
The Malawi Defence Force side’s coach Pritchard Mwansa said: “The players that we will identify from the trials will join the rest of the squad for full-scale preparations mid-February.”
Blantyre-based Mighty Wakawaka Tigers coach Leo Mpulula also said they will start preparations on January 21 with trials.
He said: “We are earmarking only those that can add value to the teamsand they will join those that will be maintained from last season.
“I will not pick every Jim and Jack, I will go for quality.”
Similarly, newly-promoted Songwe Border United of Karonga will start their preparations for a new lease of life in the top-flight with trials from January 20.
Chitipa United, who escaped relegation on the last day, also said they will start early next month.
The team’s coach Christopher Nyambose in an interview yesterday, said: “We struggled last season in which we were nearly relegated.
“So, beefing up the squad will be a must, especially goalkeeping, which was our weakest department. Upfront, we also struggled as it was only Ramadhan [Ntafu] who titcked and we are looking at roping in two more forwards. Even our defence needs tightening.”
Creck Sporting Club coach Joseph Kamwendo said his team will regroup on January 27.
In a separate interview, Blue Eagles CEO Muhamad Ali said they will announce their plan of activities in due course.
“In the meantime, our focus in completing our remaining Chipiku Stores Central Region Football Association Premier Division fixtures,” he said.
But coach Elia Kananji said the Lilongwe-based team, which is returning to the top-flight after a season in the lower league, needs to beef up with at least two to three players in defence and striking force.
