FAM has mandated its technical sub-committee to come up with logistics on the recruitment of the Flames coaching panel.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) annual general meeting (AGM) held in Salima on Saturday also tasked the technical sub-committee, that is headed by FAM first vice-president Moses Mkandawire, to consult widely on whether there will be need to hire an expatriate or appoint a local coach.

A FAM executive committee member said the technical sub-committee will come up with recommendations based on consultations by end of the year.

“Depending on the recommendations, we will then engage government as they are the ones who are responsible for the coaching panel’s remuneration and if need be, adverts will be flighted in the local press as well as electronic media,” he said.

The technical sub-committee is slated to meet this week to start the process.

The position of Flames coach is now vacant and the last one to hold it on temporary basis was Belgian Tom Saintfiet who was assisted by Eddingtone Ng’onamo and Patrick Mabedi.

Earlier on, the technical panel was headed by Ng’onamo with Mabedi and Ernest Mtawali as his assistants. The last permanent panel had Kinnah Phiri as head coach with Young Chimodzi as his deputy and Jack Chamangwana as technical adviser.

The three were sacked by FAM, but redeployed at regional Sports Council offices by government as they were still under contract.

Meanwhile, FAM has come up with the first-ever arbitration committee in a bid to refrain from taking football issues to court and should they accept their appointments, the committee’s first task will be the case between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers over Tony Chitsulo.

The proposed committee comprises Charles Twalibu, Professor Al Mtenje, George Bakuwa, Gracian Tukula and Justice Lovemore Chikopa.

The AGM also appointed a constitutional committee to oversee the amendment of the FAM statutes together with a team from Fifa that is expected in the country on Wednesday.

The two parties will meet on Thursday and Friday and the local committee comprises FAM president Walter Nyamilandu, his first deputy Moses Mkandawire, FAM executive member Jabber Alide, Sulom president Innocent Bottomani, Southern Region Football League [SRFL] chairperson Trouble Kalua and his Northern Region counterpart Alfred Gunda.

The resolutions are expected to be tabled and adopted at a FAM extraordinary general meeting in January next year.

The gathering in Salima also tackled financial matters, whereby FAM was cautioned by its affiliates to operate within its means.
