China-based Malawi women’s football star TemwaChawinga netted a brace as her club Wuhan Jiangda swept aside Beijing BG Phoenix 3-0 on Saturday in a women’s Superleague encounter.

The defending champions are closing in on the title as they have now 36 points, having won all their 12 games in the 10-team league.

Wuhan led 1-0 at half-time through Lou Jiahui’s strike before Temwa’s brace in the second half sealed their victory.

In an interview yesterday, the Scorchers forward said she was excited to keep the goals flowing.

She said: “After the break, I have scored three goals in two games and I hope to score more so that I can help my team retain the title.

“We have won all our 12 matches, but we are not going to get carried away, we will keep pushing.”

Temwa has taken her tally to six goals, three behind her sister who is on loan at Italian Serie A Women’s giants Inter Milan.

Last Thursday, the 22-year-old was also on target when Wuhan beat Sichuan 3-1.

She also inspired Wuhan to win the Chinese Women’s Cup in July when she scored a brace in a 3-1 victory over Beijing.

To spice it up, Temwa also won the tournament’s golden boot.
