Azam Tigers were on Sunday morning involved in a road accident near Thabwa in Chikhwawa.

The Kau-Kau boys were travelling to Nchalo for a Presidential Cup match against Balaka Socials when their minibus allegedly developed braking problems after Milare.

The club’s assistant coach McDonald Yobe said when the driver realised that the brakes were not working, he was forced to hit a rock on the roadside to avoid taking it further down the slope.

Yobe said Bashir Maunde, Willie Saenda, Mabvuto Chipolopolo, Stanely Sanudi, Stanely Pendame, Bonda Mpinganjira and Yamikani Tambala had to be rushed to Chikhwawa District Hospital.

“Maunde had a concussion while the other four fainted as a result of shock. Apart from Maunde, their condition is stable and they are under observation,” he said.

The bus itself is said to be in bad shape.

FAM competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka said they were sad to learn about the accident.

“We have since postponed their game in the spirit of fairplay and we wish all the injured a quick recovery,” said Zakazaka.

As we went to press the injured players had been referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre with Chipolopolo and Sanudi already in Plaster of Paris (PoP).
