Usi’s Odya Zake Party registered
Vice-President Michael Usi’s party, Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu, has now been officially registered in accordance with the Political Parties Act, it has emerged.
The party’s secretary general Happy Kondowe announced the development in a statement yesterday stating that it was registered on May 30 2025.

He thanked the party’s members in districts, constituency and area committees for helping the party meet registration processes and build the constitution which was certified by National Planning Commission prior to the party’s registration.
Reads the statement in part: “We, the Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu Party [Odya Zake], are pleased to announce to our members and the public at large that as of the 30th day of May 2025 the party is registered in accordance with the laws of Malawi as stipulated in the Political Parties Act No.1 of 2018.”
The party also called on people aspiring to represent the party in parliamentary and local government elections to get prepared for the nomination process which starts on June 10 2025.
But Registrar of Political Parties Kizito Tenthani was yet to confirm the development by press time yesterday.
In an interview yesterday, Kondowe said they will not conduct primaries because they do not have more than one person aspiring for parliamentary and local government elections.
However, he indicated that primaries could be held in about seven constituencies only, which are likely to present more than one aspirant per ward or constituency.
On plans to join forces with other political parties, Kondowe said that is a decision they will have to make at an appropriate time.
Usi launched Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu party nn April 27 2025 , but kept a tight lid on whether he will be on the presidential ballot in the September 16 General Election.
Usi’s Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu, then a movement, went into oblivion in February 2019 after former vice-president the late Saulos Chilima picked him as his running mate in the nullified presidential election.
