The World Bank Office in Malawi has a new country manager, Greg Toulmin, who replaces Laura Kullenberg who completed her tour of duty at the end of July this year.

In a press statement released on Friday, the bank said Toulmin will lead a diverse team supporting Malawi’s development and will be developing and implementing a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the World Bank’s engagement with Malawi for 2018-2021 as well as coordinate the bank’s engagement with government, development partners, and other key stakeholders.

The new broom:Toulmin

“I first came to Malawi 37 years ago. I am delighted to have the opportunity to return, and to have the chance to work with Government as it leads the country’s growth and development agenda.”

“Malawi’s recent progress towards macroeconomic stability opens the way for a renewed focus on transformation and growth, provided that recent progress can be sustained.

“The World Bank stands ready to continue supporting the country’s efforts to move forward,” said Toulmin in the statement.

Toulmin, a British national, brings to Malawi a wealth of development knowledge and expertise with the World Bank since 1984.

He has experience in both developed and developing countries, most recently having served as country programme coordinator for Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Cabo Verde.

An American national, Laura Kullenberg assumed the role of the World Bank’s country manager for Malawi in 2013. She holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. n
