World Vision gives Nsanje school toilets
World Vision Malawi has handed over two toilets complete with changing rooms worth K75 million to Matundu Primary School in Traditional Authority Chimombo in Nsanje District.
Speaking on Monday during the handover, World Vision Nyachipere Area Programme water, sanitation and hygiene project officer Thokozani Chepuka said they wanted to complement government’s efforts to improve sanitation at the institution.

He said after implementing different projects in the area for the past 12 years, they discovered that many schools do not have reliable toilets; hence, constructing the facilities.
Said Chepuka: “The school has many learners but with eight dilapidated toilets. So, we decided to construct the two toilets to enhance hygiene at the school.
“We constructed disability friendly structures as the school has a section for learners with visual impairment and those who use wheelchairs.”
On his part, Senior Chief Chimombo thanked World Vision for the initiative, saying poor sanitation has the potential to cause diseases.
The chief warned people living close to the school to have their own toilets and not use those at the school.
Nsanje District Council coordinating primary education adviser Mcknowledge Maganizo asked other organisations to emulate the example set by World Vision.
“We need more toilets in schools to make them conducive for learning,” he said.
The school’s health and nutrition teacher Innocent Mthyola Moses said he will ensure that the toilets are clean.
In her remarks, the school’s deputy head girl Christina Paul thanked the organisation for the facilities.
“We are pleased to have good toilets with changing rooms, which will help us during menstruation. Some girls were missing classes due to lack of a changing rooms,” she said.
The school opened its doors in 1906 and has 1 433 learners and 12 teachers
