Zikhale commits to develop sports

inister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma says he is committed to develop sports in the constituency.

He made the remarks on Sunday when he organised a rally at Chituka ground in Nkhata Bay South  Constituency.

Ng’oma, who is also Nkhata Bay South legislator, also pledged to construct a community stadium  and organise football and netball bonanzas for the youth to embrace sports as a career.

He said: “I have carried out a number of development projects in my constituency, but now I want to invest in the youth by organising different sporting bonanzas.

“My vision is to young people in my constituency to go a long way and play for established football and netball clubs in the country and outside the country.”

During the event, Ng’oma said government has approved stadium project at Chifira in the area while plans for another one at Kachere are in the pipeline.

On his part, Ministry of Youth and Sports deputy director of sports Kinnah Phiri commended the minister for the initiative, saying it is critical in talent identification at grass roots level.

He pledged to  help in identifying talent from the constituency.

“I took Micium Mhone from this area when he was only 14 years old, now he is playing at one of big clubs in the country Blue Eagles and the national team. As such, I will use every platform to help the young talents from the area, to realise their dreams to play in big teams in the country,” said Phiri.

Blessings Banga, a youth from the area, said the initiative will help young people refrain from engaging in drug and substance abuse and concentrate in building their careers in sports.

The rally was spiced up with a football match between Rocana Stars and Nigeria FC.

The winner took home K300 000 while the loser recieved K200 000.
