Bankers engage students on financial literacy
Bankers Association of Malawi (BAM) has stressed the need to instil a culture of saving and financial management among students.
BAM member Samson Mzungu, who is also National Bank of Malawi plc Mzuzu Service Centre manager, said this on Saturday in Mzuzu when the association interacted with students at Luwinga Secondary School in the city.
Among others, he said there are challenges where people get to know financial matters when they are grown up, which leads to failure in managing finances.
“At an early age there must be enthusiasm in trying to understand the roles of banks, financial matters and how one can access or settle loans,” said Mzungu.
Speaking on behalf of others, Form Two student Rachel Kalua, said they need to be prepared early on how they can handle finances, including the pocket.
“Financial literacy talks will help us as we grow on how we can keep our money. Most of us are young and really do not know how to manage money.
“So, the meeting was important in that we learnt a lot on how we can manage financial resources,” she said.
