Music lovers in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre, and the surrounding districts will this weekend have no excuse of not attending a live music show due to funds as the newly opened Luso TV brings a free live music show at the Chichiri Upper Stadium on Saturday.

Dubbed Free Concert, the first-ever free music show by the TV station features only the cream of reggae, tradition and Afro-fusion music stars from the Central Region.

Among the big names on the list include Nyemba Nyemba boys Kendal Kamwendo and Symon Kamlaka, Annie Matumbi, Skeffa Chimoto, Soul Raiders and Sally  Nyundo.

Speaking in an interview on Sunday, Luso TV operations manager Franklin Phanga said all is set for the big day.

“We are almost done on our preparations; everything for the show is set. We have already paid all artists on the list and they have guaranteed their presence on the day,” said Phanga.

Kamwendo said their band is ready for the show.

“We are ready for the concert. Our preparations have been smooth and nothing is stopping us from performing at the event,” said Kamwendo, confirming that Luso TV already paid for their service.

He said big screens will be used to ensure that those who are far from the performing stage will see the artists close by.

Phanga said the purpose of the show is to promote local talent and give Malawians a chance to appreciate talent.

A similar event will be held in the Central and Northern regions.
