Covid-19 dampens Easter mood

In an interview, Mphoka said their planned performances in Nchalo and Blantyre were cancelled after all bookings were done. He said much as it has been a big blow to them, but they understand that life is of prime importance.

He said: “So many other sectors have been affected so we hope our fans will understand.
“As someone who is coming from a religious background, I will use this resting period to refresh my spiritual life at church in line with the Easter season.”
Every year Entertainers Promotions (EP) hosts an Easter Gospel Concert but this year the Covid-19 pandemic has derailed their plans to maintain that trend. EP director Tonderai Banda said it is unfortunate that this year the event will not take place.
“We were supposed to host the Easter Gospel Concert as we normally do but we cancelled. It has affected us greatly because apart from hosting live performances our business as EP also relies on hiring out our equipment so it has been really tough,” he said in an interview.
Banda said this is their second event to be cancelled within their calendar of events after they also failed to unveil a new album for Six Solid Band in Lilongwe a few weeks ago.
Another event which has failed to take place is the maiden Easter Theatre Festival which was expected to be hosted by Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC). Its director Luke Deschamps said the festival and Kungoni Wooden Exhibition will be rescheduled once the pandemic is over.
