Giddes impresses with energetic performance
Octogenarian Giddes Chalamanda, popularly known as Agide, on Friday defied his age when he gave a scintillating performance at Chameleon Club in Lilongwe.
The show, which was a launch of his South Africa tour, saw him perform for almost an hour with lots of energy and vigour.
He opened his set with the hit song Che Melie before performing Nthawi Zina.
Then he once more performed Che Melie followed by other songs such as Nellie, Linny and Culture Yathu before he was interrupted by Davis Njobvu of the Edgar ndi Davis duo.
“Ngati a Giddes tinapita nawo ku America tikakanike ku Sasafrica? [If we managed to take Giddes to America, can we fail to take him to South Africa],” he said while mimicking former president Bakili Muluzi.
Chalamanda later took charge of things dancing and singing, moving about the stage and interacting with fans before handing over the stage to Edgar ndi Davis.
After his set, he had a photo session with fans at a charge of K1 000 per photo.
As the mix and mingle continued, Agide was either beaming with a smile or making the next person laugh.
“Komatu munthune sindinakalambe [I am not a spent force],” he was overheard telling a female fan as he sent those around into fists of laughter.
With the photo session done, he ended his evening, with a beer in hand, getting ready for his tour of South Africa slated for February next year.
